CBD Electrical delivered the electrical infrastructure component of the South Bondi Water Quality Improvement Project at Bondi Beach. The project was commissioned by Waverley Council to upgrade and expand the capacity of the existing stormwater treatment system that forms part of the Bondi stormwater harvesting scheme.
We worked alongside principal contractor Urban Renew and stormwater specialists Ocean Protect, who supplied and installed a Vortechs VX2000 Gross Pollutant Trap. Our scope covered the underground electrical conduit installation, junction pit construction, cable laying, and all associated electrical connections needed to support the new stormwater system.
Working directly on one of Australia's most recognised beaches brought real logistical challenges. The site had to remain safe and accessible for the public throughout, with fencing, signage, and careful scheduling required at every stage. All underground works were coordinated around existing services, including drainage and stormwater infrastructure already in the ground.

We began with a detailed site assessment to map existing underground services and plan conduit routes that avoided conflicts with stormwater, drainage, and other utilities. Given the public location, all works were staged to minimise disruption and maintain safe beach access for visitors.
Conduit, pits, and cabling were installed to council specification and tested before backfill. We coordinated daily with Urban Renew's project manager and the Ocean Protect installation team to keep the program on track. The project was completed on schedule as part of the broader stormwater upgrade.
