CBD Electrical was engaged to design and install exterior lighting across the Tempe House precinct in Arncliffe. The property is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register (SHR #00725), which meant every aspect of the lighting installation had to be planned around the heritage fabric of the building.
The sandstone walls, gabled roofline, and mature Norfolk Island pines called for warm uplighting that would bring out the texture of the stone without overpowering the character of the building. Each fixture was carefully positioned at the base of the walls and around key architectural features, with cabling routed discreetly to avoid any visible impact on the heritage facade.
The result is a lighting scheme that makes the building look impressive after dark while respecting the history and significance of the site.

A full exterior lighting installation across a State Heritage listed sandstone property.

Heritage properties need a careful approach. We started with the architectural features of the building and worked out where light would have the most impact on the sandstone texture and the roofline details. Fixture positions were planned to avoid drilling into significant heritage fabric wherever possible, with ground-mounted uplights used as the primary method.
Cable runs were routed through concealed paths to keep the facade clean. Warm colour temperature LEDs were selected to complement the natural tone of the sandstone rather than wash it out. The final installation was tested and adjusted on site at dusk to get the lighting levels and angles right before sign-off.
